Climate Change

On the topic of climate, IVIG has hosted the Brazilian Forum on Climate Change (FBMC) since 2004, in addition to developing studies on greenhouse gases emissions from hydropower plants and their impacts on climate change, and researches on historical responsibilities and their consequences on international agreements, focusing on the Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol.

Brazilian Forum on Climate Change

On the topic of climate, the Institute has hosted since 2004 the Brazilian Forum on Climate Change (FBMC), created by Decree 3,515 issued on June 20 2000. The aim of the forum is to bring awareness and mobilization of society about issues which stem from climate change and about the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

The FBMC helps the government incorporate climate change issues to many stages of public policies. In this sense, its members have contributed to the construction of the Sectoral Plans of Climate Change Mitigation, through five Work Groups:

  • Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Deforestation in the Legal Amazon
  • Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Deforestation in the Cerrado
  • Action Plan for the Energy Sector
  • Action Plan for the Ferrous Metallurgy Sector
  • Action Plan for Agriculture

In partnership with Editora Interciência, three issues of the collection were published so far, discussing themes as: vulnerability and adaptation, water resources, biomass energy, solid waste and technological innovation.

Volume 1 - VULNERABILITY OF WATER RESOURCES OF REGIONS AND URBAN AREAS

Volume 2 - CARBON EMISSIONS AND LAND USE CHANGES

Volume 3 - VULNERABILITY AND ADAPTATION OF WATER RESOURCES TO CLIMATE CHANGE IN BRAZIL
